When to hire me

You probably don't need another full-time DevOps hire.

You might need me if...

01

Your developers became the infrastructure team by accident

Infrastructure work is taking time away from product development.

02

Deployments are slower and riskier than they should be

Releases are manual, inconsistent or dependent on one person knowing the process.

03

Your AWS spend keeps increasing

Nobody has enough time to review architecture, capacity and unnecessary costs.

04

Your original platform no longer scales

What worked for your first customers is struggling as traffic and complexity grow.

05

Infrastructure shortcuts are slowing delivery

Configuration drift, manual fixes and legacy decisions are creating more work every month.

06

You need senior infrastructure ownership

You need someone who can make decisions, implement changes and take responsibility for the result.

How I work

A typical first month

01

Understand the platform

I review your AWS accounts, infrastructure code, deployment process, monitoring and current pain points.

02

Agree on priorities

You receive a short, prioritised plan covering urgent risks, quick wins and longer-term improvements.

03

Start delivering

I implement the highest-value work inside your existing repositories, accounts and engineering workflow.

04

Document and hand over

Changes, decisions and operational instructions are documented so your team is never dependent on me.

The exact scope depends on your selected monthly capacity and the state of your existing platform.

  • Work happens in your repositories and AWS accounts
  • Least-privilege access by default
  • Infrastructure changes are captured in code
  • Priorities and progress are communicated weekly
  • Decisions and operational procedures are documented
  • No proprietary platform or consultant lock-in

Frequently asked questions

Something not covered here? Ask me directly on the intro call.

1. What does fractional actually mean?+

You get a senior AWS DevOps engineer for a fixed number of hours per month instead of a full-time hire. I work as part of your engineering team, own infrastructure work end to end, and you can adjust the monthly capacity as your roadmap changes.

2. What happens during the first month?+

I review your AWS accounts, infrastructure code, deployment process and monitoring, then send a short prioritised plan. From there I start delivering the highest-value work in your own repositories and accounts, and document changes and operational instructions as I go.

3. How do you access our AWS accounts and repositories?+

Work happens in your repositories and AWS accounts using least-privilege access by default. You grant only the permissions needed, and access can be revoked at any time.

4. Who is this service not suitable for?+

Teams that need 24/7 on-call cover or a full-time embedded engineer. I don't provide 24/7 on-call, so if that is your main requirement this is not the right fit.

5. Which timezones and contracts do you work in?+

I'm EU-based and work in CET, overlapping fully with European teams and mornings for US East Coast. Invoicing and VAT details are confirmed before the engagement starts.

6. Do you work with existing infrastructure or only greenfield?+

Both. Most engagements start with a review of what exists, a prioritised remediation plan, then incremental improvement of Terraform, EKS and delivery pipelines without a risky big-bang rewrite.

7. How fast can we start?+

Usually within days. We start with a free 30-minute call, I send a short scope and pricing proposal, and after sign-off you get the first deliverables in the opening weeks.

8. What happens when the engagement ends?+

Infrastructure changes are captured in code, documented and handed over to your team. Your engineers retain full access and ownership when the engagement ends.
